Meet Laird Alec MacLean

[dropcap type=”square or circle”] O [/dropcap]ur guest this month is Laird Alec MacLean of the Isle of Photo of Laird Alec MacLeanMull. He’s tall, broad-shouldered with pale blue eyes “the color of a cloudless sky on a cold winter day.” In other words, the pure embodiment of a Book-Bae if you ever met one! I’m are so excited to have him us today. Alec is the hero of Madeline Martin’s Enchantment of a Highlander.

1-Alec, I’m so happy to have you chatting with me today. I read somethings about you and I can tell you all my lady readers and I definitely want to get to know you better. Can you share a little about yourself with us?

I’m laird of the MacLean clan, returned from my travels to oversee the rebuilding of Duart Castle. My da was an arse who let everything fall apart around him, including the verra people who live there.

I’ve got a lad who travels with me named Duncan. The boy doesna have anyone else, so I keep him on, even if he talks enough to put the lasses to shame and somehow always manages to find himself in trouble.

2-At the beginning of your story, you’re returning to take control of your lands. Where were you before that?

Anywhere but home. Trust me, if ye knew the former laird, ye’d understand why. I fought as a hired sword, sometimes with friends, sometimes for my own reasons. It’s a good thing too, mind ye – the repairs of Duart Castle and restoration of the land and people will be a considerable fortune to put to rights.

3-You come home to a clan in misery and they don’t know you very well. What do you want your people to know about you?

I’m no’ my da. I dinna let myself touch drink like he did, and I dinna take my rage out on others. I want to make right all the wrongs of his lifetime. Even if they canna forgive my bloodline, I hope they’ll support me in my efforts for their benefit.

4-You seem like such a nice guy. Is there a part of you that’s not so nice? Who gets to see that?

I dinna talk about this generally. My da had a darkness to him. It made him drink and that drink led to hate and violence. I feel it on me, pressing into my mind, begging me to give in to the ugliness that pulled him down. Celia has seen it before. She dinna run from me, but be sure she certainly put me in my place!

4-Laird, we are very interested about what you like in a woman. Quiet and submissive or outspoken and bold?

I always thought I liked a compliant lass who dinna want any attachments – that is until I met Celia. She’s a spitfire who is unpredictable at best and doesna suffer fools, even lairds. That said, I suppose I’ll have to go with outspoken and bold with a bonny face and a fine set of wide hips.

5-Word on the streets . . . err, the hill is that you have a thing for the witch, I mean healer. Tell us about Celia. We’ll try not to get jealous!

The world thinks she’s a witch. I can see why, if I’m being honest. The lass has the stars in her eyes and a white gold glow to her hair that puts the stars to shame. She’s the bonniest lass I’ve ever seen. And she works miracles unlike any I’ve ever laid eyes upon before. She doesna bleed her patients, or use leeches and other various methods I’ve seen. But with her hands, she manages to bring babes back from the dead and cure various other illnesses. The lass has an even hand for stitching too – barely a scar left. *pulls open his leine for all to see the narrow scar on his broad chest*

6- So, you probably don’t know this because of the 409 year difference and all, but one of my main guys is named Alec McLean. And you both are sexy, strong leaders, haunted by their fathers. And you both seem to like your women strong and in command. What advice can you give Alec McLean when dealing with his lady love, Carissa?

*chuckles* Dinna fight it, lad. She’s going to win ye over – it’s better if ye dinna struggle, aye?

7-What’s it like to wear a kilt and what do you do to keep warm in the cold highlands? Does the draft ever bother you?

Ach, it’s liberating. I dinna have leather chaffing my stones and clinging to me. The wool is made of the finest quality and bound with so tight a knit that when wet, it expands and keeps all the wind out. Ye’ve got this piece here *holds up a length thrown over his shoulder* that ye can wind around yer head when it rains or curl around yer shoulders when the cold bites. If the English had real men, they’d have adopted it by now too I’d wager.

8-I know you’re busy but please, one last question. What do you think men in my century get wrong when trying to conquer a lady?

Skinny jeans. Just go with a kilt, lads.
